Touchscreen Interactives

Client: SAASCC Museum Category: Touchscreen Services: UX | UI | Design | Animation

Over 50 interactive touchscreens across 3 galleries for the Space Museum at the Sheikh Abdullah Al Salem Cultural Centre (SAASCC) in Kuwait.

Working with New Angle a London digital agency specialising in the museum sector, I was their Design Director for the Space Museum, SAASCC in Kuwait. The museum is split into three galleries, taking up over 4,300m2 and features over 100 exhibits; from linear video and simple interactives to more complex multi-player games and immersive Kinect experiences.

My responsibilities included all the UX and game concepts for all the interactive , the UI design system for each of the three galleries plus the initial design layout for each interactive, before focusing on the design detail and development of key exhibits.

Interactive Ergonomics

Each individual brief included a hardware specification and a technical drawing with the relevant floor plan. This would highlight the ‘physicality’ of the exhibit and assist in understanding how the interactive was going to exist in its final destination and surrounding area.

UX

A simple flowpath detailed the user experience for each exhibit. This focused on the user journey and highlighted the key interaction points and their inherent deliverables. The UX was developed into a series of wireframes which formed the basis of an outline design document and technical specification for the developers.

UI Templates | Attractor

A bespoke UI design language and colour palette was created for each of the three galleries. This had to create an individual feel, but remain visually consistent. A key part of this was the 'Attractor', enticing the visitor using imagery from the final exhibit and a language option as all exhibits were available in Arabic or English.
